1) Switch Performance (random traffic)

Jean Pierre gave the first of 2 general talks on 'switch performance'. The first talk was based on the analysis for random traffic, and the second will be for coherent traffic. (the slides will 'soon' be available on WWW, paper copies can be obtained from Jean Pierre)..

The structure of the first talk was

• Some definitions for circuit, message and packet switching
• Blocking and non-blocking contention
• Performance of non-blocking switches
• Blocking in switch fabrics
• Performance of 2 stage fabric
• Some conclusions on performance with random traffic (not scalable)

In the second talk  an analysis will be given of performance when the event building traffic is not random, and can be transformed to coherent traffic with better throughput.

A decision would be made in the next few days on the DAQ workshop.
