Minutes of the Computing meeting held on 4 September 2000

   1. status of the move of the LHCb web server to central services

• nodes have been moved.
• mail has been moved.
• web pages will be moved when A.Pace is back (16.9)

     2. Bookkeeping status (J.Closier)

• the pileup input run number is kept for DST2
• the log file is accessible.
  • production made since 4 September should fill this information.
• it is possible to generate SICBDST data cards with the list of selected JOBIDs.
• it is possible to generate GAUDI jobOptions with the list of selected JOBIDs.

    3. Spill over events

• T.Nakada mentionned that it is very important to simulate spill over events.
• In SICBDST nothing is forseen:
  • the reading part is there
  • but the detector response is not simulated in the digitization step
• In Brunel detectors should be able to digitize more than one event.

  discussion on this subject should take place in a Brunel meeting.

     4. Software reorganization (Flr)

          It is proposed to:

• generalize the grouping of  packages under a group_name as it is done for detector software and to keep this group_name
  on mycmt/, $LHCBSOFT/ and $LHCBDEV
  • CaloSoft, L1, Velo, Tracking
    • create SICB, Brunel, Gaudi, ...
  • under SICB you could find
    • SICBMC, SICBDST, events, simpgen, recrich, Futio, ....
      • under events/ : v1, v2, v3r4, ...
  • under Gaudi
    • Gaudi, GaudiAlg, GaudiSvc, HbookCnv, ...
  • To check out a package
    • getpack Velo/VSicbCnv v2r1
  • To use a package
    • use VSicbCnv v2r1 Velo
• keep access to $LHCBSOFT as it is:
  • readonly granted to everybody
  • write access granted to librarians only
• give write access to $LHCBDEV to package group managers.
• give a common structure to all packages following CMT defaults:
  • branches of pckA are : doc/, src/, pckA, cmt/
    • cmt/ is the new name of mgr/
    • src/ contains the code *.F , *.cpp, "private" include files
      • a substructure is possible if necessary.
    • pckA/ contains include files accessible from outside
      • #include "pckA/file.h"
  • package name must start with the group name to avoid clashes:
    • Velo/VeloEvent, L1/L1Event
  • each type (component, library, static) of libraries should have a name derived from the package name:
    • the component library should be called as the package.

  These changes should be in place for the next Gaudi release in November.
