LHCb Training Course in OO Programming -------------------------------------- As was agreed at the Data Handling meeting during the last LHCb week, I have organised a training course in the basics of Object Oriented Programming. If you are interested in attending this course please read on, and if you decide to participate please send me an email AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The number of places is limited and places will be allocated on a first-come first served basis.

Dates ----- Duration 5 days Starts Monday Dec 7th, at 9.00 Finishes Friday Dec 11th, at ~16.30 NB This is the week after the next LHCb week.

Lecturer -------- John Deacon will give the lectures and they will be in English. John is a training consultant. He has had several years experience of teaching at CERN and his courses have been very well received.

Material Covered ---------------- For this special LHCb course we have combined elements from two courses described in the CERN training brochure :

OO Analysis and Design - techniques for design of good object classes and architectures. The notation used is the Unified Modeling Language (UML) approach of Booch and Rumbaugh.

Hands-on Design and Programming - aim is to give hands-on experience of OO design and programming through practical examples in C++. It focuses on design issues rather than on the programming language itself.

Prerequisites ------------- Some knowledge of the C++ syntax is assumed, particularly for the hands-on programming sections of the course.

Location -------- The course has been organised through the CERN Technical Training Service and will take place in one of the special training rooms at CERN.

Cost ---- The cost charged to participants is 200 CHF per day per person (i.e. will be 1000 CHF in total for each participant).

Registration ------------ Please send me a mail as soon as possible if you wish to attend this course. Places are limited so only the first 15 (approx.) can be taken. If there is sufficient demand I will organise a second course some time in the new year. I will reply by email to inform you place on the course and send further details on how payment should be made.
