Dear Colleagues,

The Particle-ID working group will hold its first meeting during the next LHCb week (in conjunction with the Tracking task force). At that meeting it would be good to review what has been done, and is in progress, in the field of particle identification.

There are various algorithms that have been developed for seperate subdetectors:

Hadron identification in the RICH detectors Electron/photon/pi0 identification in the calorimeters Muon identification in the muon system

In addition, we should study issues that cross between different subsystems such as:

Use of the calorimeters and RICH together for electron ID Special tracking for electron candidates, photon conversions Matching muon candidates to spectrometer tracks V0 finding neutral hadron identification Optimal combination of information from different detectors Jet finding Energy flow

Please send me a message if you are interested in such topics, and I will compile a mailing list for the group. I would also welcome suggestions for items to be studied.

Best regards, Roger Forty
