Dear LHCb users,
I want to inform you that the public service for LINUX is called lxplus
and it is running RedHat 6.0 since this morning.
To be in phase with the interactive machine, we have move our batch
machine to run RedHat 6.0. BUT this implies a change in the way to
submit your batch job.
From now the batch queues are called z5_8nm, z5_1nh, z5_8nh, z5_1nd,
z5_1nw. We have just added the prefixe z5_ in from of the previous queue
name. So you will have to change the name of the queue in your job to
use the shiftlhcb machine. If you forget, your job will run but on the
PUBLIC batch machine, called lsbatch, shared with the CERN community.
Queue name Length (NCU)
z5_8nm 8 NCU minutes
z5_1nh 1 NCU hour
z5_8nh 8 NCU hours
z5_1nd 1 NCU day
z5_1nw 1 NCU week
Normally the executable build on RedHat 5.1 must run on RedHat 6.0 but
it is not true in the other way.
For the users who have on their desk a PC running Linux RedHat 5.1 and
who wish to have their PC upgraded to RedHat 6.0, they can send me an
E-mail (Joel.closier@cern.ch) with the name of their machine. In any
case, this upgrade will not be performed before the 17th of january
2000. But this will give me an idea of how many PC needs to be upgraded.
For any problem or question, don't hesitate to contact me.
                                        Joel.
