MEMO
July 7th, 2000
To: Members of the LHCb Collaboration
From: H.J.Hilke/ LHCb Technical Coordinator
Concerns: Access to LHCb underground area after mid-2005
To clarify the situation, I wish to summarize the likely scenario, as it
has been agreed in the LEMIC meetings between accelerator and
experiments. Conditions may of coarse evolve, with more frequent
demands for access expected initially.
1. Behind the concrete wall,
i.e. access to the barracks containing electronic racks and the gas
distribution:
No restrictionat any time!
Of coarse, you have to be registered as CERN User and carry your film
badge.
 2. In front of the concrete wall:
LHCb has two access gates. The hall space containing the detector
should be declared as ‘Area with immediate access’,
with the possible exception of zones near to the beam pipe, the VELO
tank and the innermost iron parts of HCAL and Muon System. For these
possible exceptions, details will have to be discussed with the safety
service TIS.
Guidelines for acces:
1 hour access: Any time with 12-24h notice. (The cryogenics
group has asked for 1 access every 24 hours.)
1 day access: At least once per month.
Few days’ access: Some 4 times during the run period.
Winter shutdown: 5 months from November to March.
