In August 1995 a Letter of Intent was submitted for LHCb, the world's first dedicated b-physics experiment at a hadron collider. This document was favourably received, and a Technical Proposal and Technical Design Reports soon followed. The detector was ready for first LHC collisions, and had a highly successful data-taking campaign during run 1, from which a multitude of important results have emerged in flavour physics, spectroscopy and many other areas. Come and join us to celebrate the first 20 years of LHCb, and to survey the prospects ahead.
