Radiation studies

Radiation levels in the LHCb cavern have been calculated with FLUKA99

Old results for the  "LHCb-Classic" layout (December 2001) can be found here.

Present results are obtained for the experimental layout corresponding to "LHCb-Classic-minus". Comments about the geometry are here.

  1. X view of the LHCb setup
  2. Y view of the LHCb setup
  3. Detailed X view of the VERTEX region
  4. Detailed Y view of the VERTEX region

Detailed explanations of the simulation conditions and results available can be found here

The tables below contains link to the results (postcript and maps) in different locations of the LHCb experimental setup regarding doses&fluences and spectra

A summary table with maximum and average radiation levels in selected regions is available from the Electronics web pages.

(*) 1 MeV equivalent neutron fluence for Si was calculated using weighted sum of the neutrons, hadrons and electrons fluence maps. The weights were obtained by convolution of the particle spectra with the data on displacement damage in Si taken from http://sesam.desy.de/~gunnar/Si-dfuncs.html .

(**) These locations do not correspond to any subdetector. However we consider this data useful for back compatibility with older results and continuity of the fluence/dose analysis.
