Hans presented the work he has done so far on the design of the readout unit (RU). Hans will put his presentation eventually on the Web. Basically EP-ED section has 8 my of effort for the next two years available for electronic development. A doctoral student will do the design of the module and other members of the section will do the board design and the board prototype. A first prototype could be expected in '99. Hans will need ~30 kSFr. partly for design software licences, partly for one-off items like films for the PCB etc.
In the discussion it was asked whether some parts of the functionality could be bought as commercial components. Hans meant that this needs to be investigated. It was felt that a URD document was for the RU is needed.
The question whether Foresight was the appropriate simulation tool to use was raised. In principle there are many tools around (e.g. VisualVerilog, Ptolemy,...). Foresight at least looks interesting for system-level simulations.
Pere gave an overview of the activities of the DCS joint
project (see his Slides on the Web).
For the DCS workshop scheduled for June 3-5 it was felt that the RICH and the VDET people
should be contacted for requirements.
There was no other business.
