Minutes of the Computing meeting held on 23 October 2000

   1. Status of SICBMC and SICBDST (A.Jacholkowska)

• SICBDST v235r1 (new RICH code and new pileup) is still crashing in RICH code on NT even with a Zebra
  common block of 20 Mwords.
  • G.Wilkinson is working on the problem.
  • new pileup should be implemented in Brunel.
• SICBDST v236 (new RICH and new VELO) does not contain the last modifications added to SICB v235r1 for
  • pileup
  • RICH bugs.
    • We will wait until RICH code is fixed to upgrade the SICBDST v236.

• SICBMC v234r1 can be used  to produce data with new RICH, new VELO and no extra material in front of ECAL

  2. Strategy for including sub-detector code in LHCbEvent and SicbCnv (M.Franck)

• Markus has introduced the problem:
  • to be included into LHCbEvent and SicbCnv sub-detector code should be:
    • stable but allowing some kind of flexibility,
    • coordination among various sub-detectors is essential
    • long term maintenance is to be foreseen.
  • For the moment keep packages as they are.
  • review the question during the software week.

   3. Preparation for software week (M.Cattaneo)

• the agenda is available on the web and regularly updated.

   4. Report on Geant4 workshop in Paris (G.Gracia)

• Every year there is a Geant4 workshop where all Geant4 developers meet for a week : this year it was in LAL/Orsay
• The emphasis of this workshop was:
  • comparison of Geant4 with Testbeam data done by several groups in calorimetry and tracking
  • building an application  (X-ray space telescope) with interfaces to various tools such as histogramming package,
    visualization package.
  • building a training kit.

   5. A.O.B.

• Joel reminds that LHCb has some private batch queues on lxbatch :
  • z5_8nm, z5_1nh, z5_8nh, z5_1nd, z5_1nw
    which are empty
