Hello,

This is a mail to the general LHC mailing list about the LHC physics workshop B decays group. All future communications will be to the physics mailing list, so please enlist on this if you have an interest. As announced, the first meeting will be on Friday 15th Jan. The tentative agenda can be found by going to http://home.cern.ch/~mlm/lhc99/lhcworkshop.html and then clicking on the B decays subgroup. All are welcome, but it would be useful for potential attendees to contact me, so we know how many people to expect.

People are also encouraged to contact me if they are interested in investigating a B decays physics topic during the year of the workshop. The primary purpose of the workshop is to assess LHC physics potential, but in the ideal case a physics simulation study will be carried out with (for example) detector optimisation issues and higher level trigger strategy in mind. Help in any topic is welcome, but there are certain benchmark channels where to my knowledge manpower is presently non-existent or doubtful, and some activity is ABSOLUTELY necessary. These include J/psi Ks (both mu-mu and e-e), B_d->DK* and x_s mixing studies. Other areas where work would be welcome include rare decays, B_c physics, charm physics, flavour tagging strategy etc. Discussion in the January meeting will hopefully lead to a shopping list of interesting studies.

Hoping to hear from eager volunteers,

Regards, Guy
