Dear LHCb Colleagues,
On 26th of May, Hans Jurgen and I met with the LHCC referees, Brian
Foster and Andrey Rostovtsev (Heidi Schellman was absent for this time)
for a brief status report.
It started with the Hans Jurgen's report on the progress of the
magnet study. It was said that the decision on whether to move from the
current saddle shape coil design to a simple race track coil will be
most likely to be taken during the coming LHCb week in June. The
decision on the warm coil would still require some more studies.
Questions were asked on the inner tracker and Si (result on the
"cold" test), and it was agreed that there will be some detailed reports
next time by the experts. We have also informed the progress in the
Level-0 option studies.
A written summary for the beam test activities till 1998 and the plan
for 1999 and a detailed project plan, both requested by the referees
last time, have been given. For the project plan, Hans Jurgen pointed
out a few changes respect the original one and explained reasons behind
the changes. It was stressed that while the first document is a normal
LHCb note (LHCb 99-012 LHCC), the detailed project plan is strictly for
the internal information.
A short summary on the event generator study, which had been already
presented at the LHCC Standard Model Workshop. Referees were happy to
note that we pay attention to those problems and encouraged us to pay a
close attention to the robustness of the LHCb trigger.
In general, they were quite satisfied with the works in progress by
the LHCb collaboration.
The following programme was agreed for July just before the next
LHCC meeting:
  Wednesday 7 July, 14:00
Reports made by the relevant subsystem coordinators on
       - PSI test beam results on the inner tracker
       - Progress on the RICH photon detector R&D
       - Summary on the "Cold Si" studies
and a short presentation on the possible Si back-up solution for
the inner tracker.
  Thursday 8 July, 8:00
General discussion by the LHCC referees + LHCb management
I would like to thank the members of the LHCb collaboration for
their continuous effort which was well recognized by the referees and
the subsystem coordinators for their help to produce the two documents
handed to the referees.
                       yours Tatsuya
