Welcome to the public pages of the LHCb VELO project.

The LHCb Vertex Detector

LHCb is one of four large experiments at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. The experiment is dedicated to the study of subtle differences between matter and antimatter and to the searches for new physics through the ultra-fast decays of particles produced in high energy proton-proton collisions. For this we built a detector, sensitive to lifetime differences as small as 1 / 200,000,000,000,000 s, and which can record events up to 40 million times per second. Interested?
