VELO Sub-Projects

The VELO is composed of a number of interdependent components. The cooling system (biphase CO2),vacuum system (we operate in the LHC vacuum) and motion control are very closely linked. The Si modules are supplied with both LV and HV and the whole system, including the off detector electronics, is controlled via our ECS project. The data is collected with our part of the LHCb DAQ. Safety of the system is of paramount importance and we have designed an interlock system to protect the VELO. A large effort is invested into the software allowing physicists to decode and interpret the data in preparation for physics.
